You can see the plastic guard I had to trim off, as the plastic guard and retaining ring are all one piece. They also have it in all chrome with NO guards, which is probably the better option now that I found out the retaining ring and guard are one piece in the one I bought. http://bumpersuperstore.com/i-11436904- ... g-set.html But the thick plastic retaining ring does look more like the kc lights than the all chrome versions metal retaining ring.
So you're saying you'd stick with what you did and cut off the black guard?

Personnal opinion. I like the ones I got with the louvers cut off. I think they look most like the KCs, but without seeing the all metal version in person its kinda hard to say 100% which is better.

Thanks, I'll probably go that route.

So I've had a few people ask about the Eagle Eye lights I used for the Rear KC's. yeah it is weird in the online pics they look yellow, when I got mine they were really amber. Not sure why the online pics look so yellow..... but Yes when I ordered mine they also looked yellow... It's wierd they have 2 lights that are almost identical...

The Ones I got with the black retaining ring (Part #1613 eagle eye light) and louvers are Identical other than the retaining ring to the ones with the chrome ring (Part #1621). The promo shots of the #1613 look yellow, the ones of the #1621 look AMBER. Maybe in trying to make sure the louvers showed up well in the image they over exposed the photo.... not sure..

The promo shots looked that same way when I ordered mine.

These 2 lights are identical EXCEPT the retaining ring. On the #1613 (the ones I got) the retaining ring is black plastic and has the louvers molded with the plastic ring. On the #1621 (I haevn't seen in person) the ring appears chrome metal, the same as the housing. The only difference in these lights is the Retaining Ring. The housing, light, bracket, LENS, are all identical.

I choose the one with louvers because I thought the beefy plastic ring more closely resembled the KC plastic housing. However I would imagine the #1621's once painted black would look perfectly good too. And it would be a little slimmer.

There was actually someone else other than me with that concern?! I went ahead and ordered them tonight. I will post back here with the results when I receive them.

I received the Eagle Eye fog lights from bumper super store. They are amber EXACTLY like yours. The picture on the box is yellowish. Really strange indeed. What did you use to cut the stone guards?

A simple "box cutter", with a new sharp blade.

I rested it against the flat part to get it to cut flush. Then made 5-6 passes each one deeper than the previous one. It took a fair amount of pressure especially for the first cut. But it did create a nice clean edge.

An strong exacto style knife would work as well.

My dremel was down when I did this, or I might have tried to use that, start with a cutoff disc and then go back and clean it up with a sander.

I have a coping saw that would probably be pretty easy to do as well, but I was concerned It might chew up the edges a bit and require extra sanding after the fact.

I ended up using my Harbor Freight multi tool. It made a terrible edge and it "walked" on me in one spot. I used my bench grinder to clean it off, and sanded it down to make it somewhat match the un-cut portion. Then I used some epoxy filler to repair the part I cut a little too shallow. Waiting for that to cure. I might get these finished on Friday.

What did you do to prep the chrome before plasti dipping? Just a bit of sanding to rough up the surface? How has it been holding up?

I didn't do ANYTHING to the chrome before plastidipping. Plastidip will stick to about anything with no prep (hence why it sticks to painted surfaces so well)

If I was going to spray paint it i would scuff it and prime it and final coat it. Which is what I will do when I redo it. But it's holding up great so far.

Be careful with the plastidip for a little while of course, it seems to me its softer and more prone to scratches/lifting for a week or so. though technically its "dry" in a few hours. just like paint though full hardness is longer

I think i waited 24 hours between final coat and installation.

Just a little update...

2 weeks ago I got in the jeep in the morning, and smelled gas. My lawnmower sits next to my jeep and I figured it was that.. but my son noticed some drips on the ground. Ack!. I put the Jeep back in the garage, and drove the other car. It was leaking from around the fuel filter. (driver side just at front of the leaf spring) It had been cold that night. Fast forward a week, no drips... UGH I can't know where its coming from if I can't trace the drip!

I went ahead and replaced the fuel filter and the connecting hoses. With my research some jeepers suggest changing the fuel filter every year, and mine had been on for 2 years. Also when I took mine off, and replaced the hoses, one of the hoses was CLEARLY marked.. NOT FOR FUEL. So I am figuring age+incorrect hose plus cold morning...

anyway, if anyone else gets a fuel leak in that area, check the hoses and fuel filter. its an EASY fix. I was done changing it out in 30 mintes or so..
