The beginning of JP13
Re: The beginning of JP13
Yes I used blue painters tape on all the edges, but cutting painters tape into the shape of numbers seemed way more difficult than making paper numbers and using double sides tape to hold them on.
Take your time laying out your lines, getting them to look right is a little tricky, and since you are dipping over dip, if you have to peel the red it will peel your tan.

Dont mess up
Go over the tape several times making sure it is stuck down and in the right spot. Haste makes waste! Well thats what my old man always says, like a broken record.

Re: The beginning of JP13
I hear ya. The tan is good and stuck by now. I found a couple places I need to touch up, like half the hood and the front edge. I also want to separate the flares from the body with a sharp cut down the edge where they meet.
Also need to redo the mirrors. I taped the mirror but tape was too close to the housing and pulled dip off when I removed it. Live and learn
Red goes on this weekend after I take the top off. I also have new spice roll bar covers and a spice bimini top to install.

Pre-dip entire car. Wash it well with a wax stripping detergent.Hartattack wrote:Looks great, i'm doing the plasti dip this weekend, any tips? also just buy the magnets for the doors
Lots of light coats are better than a couple heavy coats.
I removed hood latches, lenses, taillights, spare tire, mirrors, headlight bezels, hood hardware, cowl vent & sprayers, wiper arms, everything I could except door handles & locks.
Spray in shade, not direct sun. Seems to cure better.
Use blue tape to mask and pull it before the dip is dry.
Plasti-dip forums are full of tips. Do some searching.

Re: The beginning of JP13
Most of the dip is done. Still have to do the top door edge and windshield frame. Need to do some touchup to the tan due to overspray and also need to repair a few tape pulls.
Poor prep made the painter's tape lift the tan dip in a couple places. Clean, clean, clean before painting anything. Nothing likes to stick to 20-year-old fender flares. I may buy new ones.
Going to let it dry in the sun for a few hours then put a final coat of red on later this afternoon.
Tomorrow I finish the doors, take the top off, and do the windshield frame.
