Most modern cars have everything possible on the steering column, easily accessible right in front of the driver.

Not sure you'll have much luck finding something that doesn't.

Well we're not talking about "modern" cars here, and if done better I wouldn't mind the location. But I don't think a column shifter wouldn't feel as good, be as intuitive, and I think it would be harder to get a visual reference if I needed it. This is all speculation on my part, but I just don't think it would be something I would want.

Feel as good? Be as intuitive? I have no idea what you mean. You know 99% of all Explorers and Grand Cherokees are automatics, right? You put it in Drive when you leave and then Park when you get there. There's no feeling to it at all.

I didn't say you had to use them a lot bit you still have to use them.

Well then, your options are severely limited, if not non-existent.

You should probably look for a 15-year-old Civic since all of the automatic equipped JP cars have column shifters.
