Alan Grant props-Water bottle and carrier
Re: Alan Grant props-Water bottle and carrier
EUREKA!
No, wait, that's another TV that I like.
I think that I've found the correct bottle:
http://www.thermoscientific.com/en/prod ... -pack.html
The One (1) liter bottle, which is the largest, has the correct lip/neck as shown in the pic. This particular listing is the bulk pack with no closure (i.e. cap), but I will look at other similar items.
ANNNNND,
Here's the latest:

Unfortunately, the "bulk pack" is a case of 50 for a little under $300.
Well at least I've identified the basic bottle.

Re: Alan Grant props-Water bottle and carrier
The new bottle carriers arrived yesterday. The insulated ones look pretty good and seem to be made of a tougher pack cloth than the original Liberty Mountain non-insulated ones that I bought a while back. It looks much closer to the A16 version used in the film. In one of the screen caps, it looks as if there is a longer hand strap that is similar to the Lib Mtn insulated version.
Also the screen caps actually look as if they used an insulated one which would make sense in a hot environment. I think that I'm going to keep the new carriers as is except for putting on an A16 patch. Not much sewing, no dyeing. I can live with it since I'm actually going to use them in the real world along with costuming.
The hand strap seems to be easy to remove and the carrier seems like it would be easy to deconstruct should you want to remove the foam insulation. I've included a pic of the carrier turned inside out as well.
I noticed that the label was sewn on the outside layer only, probably to ease mass production.
I bought these from Buffalo Gap Outfitters (http://www.BuffaloGapOutfitters.com) via Amazon which was actually a little cheaper than their Ebay outlet.
Thanks for the tipoff Chase65. It'll save me a lot of work. I would recommend these carriers. It's probably as close as we'll get without actually finding an original A16 carrier.

No problem Pinback, anything to help. The new carriers look really good, can't wait to see one with the A16 patch on it! I recently got an A16 patch off eBay, pretty excited to make one myself!

Wow, you found another patch on ebay? I've been keeping a pretty close eye on "Adventure16" search and haven't seen any. Good for you!
Re: Alan Grant props-Water bottle and carrier
Yes I found an Adventure 16 bug bivy that had the patch on it.

Oh, OK. I was looking at that, but couldn't quite figure out if I could repurpose it after the patch was scrounged.

I have an embroidery guy looking into doing a run on the A16 patches. I'll keep you guys posted.

Re: Alan Grant props-Water bottle and carrier
Saw one test by my embroidery guy, looked ok. He's working on refining it. Will report back soon.
I just got my LibMtn insulated carrier and Nalgene bottle in the mail. They're a pretty great little combo but it got me thinking - where in the hell did Grant get the water bottle in the first place? Was he carrying it around on his person the entire time or was it hidden in the Explorer somewhere?
