Great work, I loving researching the details of the film explorers like this. I'd definately be interested in one of these panels! The interior of that no.5 looks pretty messed up, with the flat brown painted console and mouldy carpet :/

Thank you, and thank you again for your interest in one of these. Yeah your right about the condition its in, not the best, and just flat brown, I thought it would at least have the fake wood trim. I guess not.

Happy Holidays, and a Happy New Year to all! Been busy with stuff (Haven't we all), But a new year means a clean start for me! This year my goal is to finish projects and props that have been way over due! Anyway time for an update. Last time on "Jurassic Park Explorer Control Panel Replica", Cyrix9445 Posted an excellent and amazing reference picture to help me among with others understand where exactly this panel went in the Explorer. I noticed a few differences between the panel's buttons and the buttons on my model. Mainly that the panels buttons are more pressed down rather than on mine. Besides all that exciting stuff happening, (THANKS FOR THE PHOTO Cyrix9445!) I have worked on the panel more, this time fixing it up where I left off. It probably looks the same to you all, but I removed the Text for now and simplified the back of the panel. Here we are now and good news, I nocked off $11.00 from the model with the new changes!

Things that I also noticed besides the buttons being compressed down on the actual panel, are that the panels seams look to be more narrower then on my model.

Another thing to point out about the panel is that the buttons floor is raised up and more visible then on mine. Hopefully the diagram below will help you understand what I am talking about. More to come soon, Maybe even a test Panel?

If you have the opportunity, you might want to look at the stock buttons for the windows and Temperature controls from a explorer and see if your able to design it so someone could make these buttons functional. I imagine the drivers side window switch from a 2 door explorer could be made to work.

I have thought about making the controls moveable like the knob, but I guess it could be possible to make the thing functional. Though I would have to adjust some of the button shapes to fit the actual Explorer controls. Not only that, but I would have to decide what switch is for which button and what can be replaced with the actual button function for the explorer. Since you mention this I have looked up the switches for the windows and also found on ebay that the rear wiper switch is the shape I'm going for on the window buttons for the panel itself. I will go to my nearest Auto Salvage yard and pick up the switches off a..a... dead explorer :(. Cheaper that way! This whole "Making the Control Panel, An Actual Control Panel" project may actually be a possible model of the Panel replica. I will probably work on that after I finish the Control Panel, still working on it though in the mean time!
Heres what I'm thinking about your "Functional Panel" Idea.

That might work, though it might be a bit simpler to see if you can make a place to mount a stock window switch under the ones on the movie panel. so as the movie switches move, they just press down on the stock buttons underneath them. There should be plenty of room in that center console underneath it anyway.

I see what your getting at! It makes sense, but may be difficult to make it do that. I'll have to see after I finish the Panel.

Alrighty Guys, Girls, and Raptors! This is it!! The unveiling of the Completed Explorer Control Panel Model!! Here it is and its all even and symmetrical (for my standards anyway). I started this project on May 31st in 2014 and now its completed on 3/24/15! Please feel free to make suggestions on improving the model, but overall for me its done! I want to thank the members on this forum who commented on this thread and those who shared their knowledge and photos during the build to further my research for this "Not-seen", but auctioned off prop piece. Major Shoutout to Cyrix9445 for making a facebook page for his explorer build that includes his reference photos of the Explorer! Those Interior shots helped a lot man! Whats next? Ordering a test piece to see if all the details come out all right! Stay Tuned for the "From 2D modeling to 3D Reality" part of this thread.

I plan to 3d print it, and either mold the 3d printed piece, or just sell them on my shapeways shop.
