Finally going to start a build, JP26 ‘tribute’ JKU

Post by kokopelli » February 2nd, 2022, 5:16 pm

After years of starts/stalls/life I finally have a Jeep that will serve me well.
Imagine if the fleet was updated; how would the Wranglers be outfitted now?

It’s a 2016 Unlimited in Mojave Sand. This is the only Wrangler my screwed together spine can tolerate.

- the polished stainless nerf bars are getting painted black asap.
Hard top is getting painted Spice tan. I also have the full Tan soft top for it.
Tires are terrible ‘car tires’ but will get BFG’s next year.

I’ll do stripes/wheels/decals for sure. The rest I’m trying to figure out since it’s not a YJ so will never be accurate anyway:

Fender Flares- I may paint these body color- unsure yet.

CB antenna- I have the whip and spring mount still… the ball mount went with a prior failed project.
I decline to drill into the side of it, anyway for the mount. Suggestions? Should I figure out amount for the whip or go with a different antennae altogether?

Winch- snag a Ramsey reproduction? Or any number of same- look & style winch?. Mopar makes an oem surface mount for the factory bumper.

Fog Lights- this is tricky- it has factory fogs in the bumper already. I initially wanted to add a pair in front of the fenders, YJ/TJ style… but the end of this factory bumper are hollow plastic…I could probably fab an arm that reaches behind and over to the steel portion but unsure…
There is the Mopar bumper light bar, as well:

I have this bar on there already. I plan on removing the middle tab so there are only two light mounts.

Rear Fogs- the JK taillights sit higher and closer to the body. It doesn’t look like the Amber fogs would be able to fit on top. :?: :?:

Anyway, I’m just happy to be back in a Jeep!!

Hi!

Just my two cents. You may want to stick to the original fog lights and forget about mounting new ones to the bumper. After all, if the fleet was updated, they would have used OEM fogs as they did in the first park, and you already have OEM's.

Waiting to see what that 4 door wrangler turns into!

I agree on the fog lights!

First warm day we’ve had this year-

I’m doing Plastidip red since this is my daily driver and I’m doing it all myself.
I’ve emailed 401 graphics for decals and stencils…

Dang it! We finally had a warm Saturday here and I spent a couple hours laying out my stripes and got my side number stencils on.. went to put in the hood stencil and it wouldn’t come off the transfer tape- stretched out the number and ruined it!!

Hey I am looking to start the paint and stencil work on my JKU. What size decal did you get for the door logo?
The road to success is always under construction

Sorry for the late reply- those are the 15.5" YJ accurate decals. I have since removed those and put the 18" size on there- looks much better!!
