Winch Refurbishing, REP-6000

So a few months back I purchased a Ramsey REP-6000 off of craigslist. It took me about two months to get my hands on it but I finally got the opportunity to fix it up.
Here is what I started with:

I made the stickers simply from avery sticker paper that I found for 10 bucks at Kmart. I single side laminated them to help protect them from the sun. I sprayed the winch with self-etching primer and then topcoated it with trim and bumper paint to give it the same finish as my bumper, keeping a consistent look across the front of my jeep. I need a winch plate and a hawse fairlead so I can get it mounted up! Let me know. If any of you guys have a spare one laying around! Haha

Explain further on the sticker making. The ramsey logo i already had made up but the long one on the end. I have no idea what it says to have it recreated. You just printed on the blank sticker paper from kmart with your home printer? if so can i have that file you printed from or can you tell me the location. That looks awesome and i want to do the same thing

Brian, thanks for the link, its been hard to pin down that exact fairlead. I just got some cash flow so I am probably going to buy it today.

As for the sticker making, I'd like to extend a thank you to Cyrix for the Ramsey logo. Also thanks for saying it looks awesome because as you will realize it took me a while, but thats only because I was starting from scratch.

My winch had a ratty old long sticker on the end but i think in my initial picture the housing was rotated around so you couldnt see it. Basically I took a shot in the dark on the dimensions, which i luckily seemed to hit close to spot on. The sticker i made doesnt have any mettalic shine to it because its just on regular sticker paper, but i think it looks great.

Dont bother with a glossy type because laminating it will gloss it up, the paper is matte. You MUST laminate it though, the paper seems to be susceptible to dissolving with water (like normal paper does). Laminate it on both sides and then you will be able to remove the lamination on the back side when you remove the backing from the sticker paper.

Make sure that you apply some alcohol to the area and clean it before you apply the sticker because it is not the strongest adhesive, warming up the metal helps too. Then hold pressure with your HANDS for at least 10 minutes. I did this and it worked out great. Its been outside and even in a few torrential downpours at some points for a few weeks now and it has held up fantastic with NO signs of peeling or dissolving or anything like that.

I made the file by basically straining my eyes and turning the sticker in the sun so I could see the old indents of stamped letters and I am pretty sure I got all the text correct, I used arial font. All of it makes sense at least. I made the file in microsoft paint, and that was like doing the quadratic equation with an abacus. I stuck the old nasty sticker onto a regular 8x11 paper so i could get a size reference. i moved the file over to microsoft word and eyeballed the height and width comparing the paper and the computer screen.

Is there anyway I could get my file posted to the graphics thread? I will PM it to you in a moment. I dont have the greatest resources (like a laser jet printer, etc.) but i can usually get the job done.

Since you have the graphics (in order to print it on sticker paper) you should also be able to go to a vinyl sign shop (same one you use for your door logos) have have them print it up in vinyl which would probably last longer. Great job on this , the winch looks amazing!

PS new steel cable is pretty cheap, might consider replacing that old cable as well, then it will look brand new!

If it matters, the amazon one doesn't match the screen-used piece.

On the screen cap, the logo is at the bottom (and not upside down) the sticker is different, and the top 'lip' comes out farther. That being said, Ramsey still makes the exact match—but it's more expensive.

There is the ramsey one since you actually have a ramsey winch. sorry I should have noted since my winch is not a ramsey I didn't care that the fairlead was slightly different too.
