Less time and money to have them re keyed.super easy. Take the locks out and to a locksmith. 30 min.at the smith and your key will fit

Half doors are at the shop being sandblasted and repaired. I removed the locks before I brought them over. I mentioned to my FIL about shaving the locks, but when I get them back if the holes are still there I may reconsider. This would cost me more to get them re-keyed than to have my buddy or the shop do some welding.

Can't you just leave them in as a display only lock? If the door works locks or not I'd leave them in as the real doors had locks? Just a thought go with what you want tho it's your jeep

I think i payed $12 dollars for my last re-key. Maybe $17 dollars. So you would be around $35 to re-key the locks.

If I get the doors back with the holes in tact I'll get the rekeyed. My neighbor is actually a locksmith so I'm sure he'll do it for a tin of cookies or something. Do they use the old cylinders?

They pretty much re-use everything in the lock. They move the tumblers around to new spots to fit the new key. If there is a tumbler or two that will not work with the new key then they put a new tumbler piece in. The last lock i had re-keyed had some weird tumblers that he had never seen before, so he left a couple out. Lock still worked with two tumblers missing.

I picked up half doors with spice uppers about two weeks ago. Half doors do NOT last long on craigslist, so if you're looking, set up an alert through www.ifttt.com or something.

There are JP Jeeps here with full doors and hard tops and I think they look great. Ditching the hardtop completely for me isn't a possibility because I don't park the Jeep in a garage and there's about a foot of snow on the ground right now. Last year at this time we had 3 feet of snow in 24 hours, and that would be no bueno for a soft top.

On a side note, about a month ago I realized my 4WD didn't work (rusted out vac actuator). Got that fixed and 4 lo was amazing getting the Jeep out from where it was parked without having to shovel it. This is my first 4WD vehicle, most of my other cars were/are AWD.
