Re: JP88
I'm slightly worried. It looks silver up close. then again this was custom mixed for me, so i'm hoping this was just one of the colors that went into the can. just to give me an idea that this was the LJ1 not the red.COBrian wrote:weird that finger dot on the sand beige looks really gray.....

Ran into a few stumbling blocks... okay, maybe a lot of stumbling blocks. Getting back on track. I have a garage paint booth setup thanks to my wonderful and understanding girlfriend. Hoping to get some Painting practice in this weekend.

Re: JP88
Over the past year, we created a paint booth which got destroyed by a cat
so that didn't go so well. Even without a paint booth, I decided to sand and trim out my doors. Now we really love the factory red, and since red is a JP Jeep color, we decided to leave lots of small reminders. we decided to only paint the outside metal sheet sand beige and leave the remaining panels red.
Pushing on, we hand sanded the entire jeep. When I say hand sand, I mean with water, sand paper and sanding blocks. No electric sanders. then primed anything that showed bare metal.
With the help of a great movie reference sheet, we started masking off the jeep to prepare to paint the red stripes. I also picked up the vinyl numbers for the sides.
Next it was time to paint some Sand Beige, so we inverted all the masking, including numbers and set forth...
This also let me do some touchups... like paint the lower hinges that I accidentally masked off the first round.

Re: JP88
The white you see is wall filler. it washes off with water. i used it to fill the groove under the vinyl to prevent the tan from drifting under the vinyl and ruining the red.
That imperfect vinyl i had to clean up came out great on the hood
Final masking will allow me to finish the red on the hood, flares, and mirrors

Re: JP88
With the window frame repainted, new glass is installed
Rew roll bar covers and soft top
I went ahead and replaced the door magnets with some high quality vinyl and she was ready for the show (exiting Cars & Coffee Irvine)
and nails to match (even got an 88 on that toe)!
followed by a Birth Party for the 88 and her sister, the 66 (a Star Wars reference to "Order 66")
For a total of 6 JP jeeps
Im not a reddit guy, but some how the above photo ended up there... someone noticed my buddy's Lotus at the bottom of that photo... probably the best use of the nedry meme ive ever seen...

Re: JP88
and while we can mark JP88 off as complete, she of course will probably never really be done. I still have bumpers to refurbish and a light bar that i need to finish painting for beginners...
